How To Calculate Manpower Efficiency

Suppose the total standard time for the manufacturing of a product in man minutes is 8 (Please click the highlighted words for knowing more about it). And in a shift, the assembly line of this product produces 400 nos with manpower of 11 nos. Working time per shift per manpower is 420 minutes.

Manpower efficiency = (8 x 400)/(11 x 420)
= 3200/4620
= 0.6926

In percentage it is 69.26%.

And the formula for calculating manpower efficiency in percentage is
((Standard time x no of products produced) / (working time per employee x no of employees)) x 100

This efficiency can be used for Incentive schemes, Employee appraisal and as an initiative to improvement.

Please, remember to use the rule of ILO introduced in the book ” Introduction to work study” the same can be found from Industrial Engineering Handbooks (Salvendy, and other Maynards) well known. That is the study that combines ergonomics , human factors and the process interfaces. Engineering work that is seldom seen.

    Hello Melvin,
thank for sharing this info. it was helpful
btw, can i know if there are any literature or reference that able to justify the above computation?
also what are your thoughts about Overall Labor Effectiveness (OLE)?

  3. Now a days low cost automation or full automation determines productivity.
    Synergy will increase productivity.
If maintenance work is done by a team the productivity is increased geometrically than doing the job by single person. Not only productivity, the quality increases, That is actually required above productivity.
    Team work also increses safety.
I worked in Gulf The latest plant is almost fully automated and the whole system is configured throgh PLC/Distrbuted control system.
    Production goes on.
There ,the nationals are sent to courses and given regular training to update the knowledge and technology.
In-house courses and training are good motivation.
Labour laws stipulates resonable wages and there is increase in skilled jobs .
