Uses of Why-Why analysis in 5S Implementation

Why-Why analysis tool is used in 5S Implementation, to find the root causes of problems.

Why-Why analysis will be useful in following stages of 5S Implementation.

  • Shine Phase
  • Standardize Phase

We shall check in detail how we are using in each stage.

Why-Why analysis in Shine Phase

In Shine phase following activities are also done.

Please note the following list is not limited to the all activities done in Shine phase. We have only listed the activities where why why analysis is used.

  1. Identify the root cause of contamination
  2. Eliminate the root cause of contamination
  3. Identify the root causes of wear tear which is noticed while inspection
  4. Eliminate the root cause of wear and tear.

So in this case, to identify these root causes Why Why analysis is used.

Why-Why analysis in Standardize phase

In Standardize phase following activities are also done.

  1. Make the standard habit of the operator.

So whenever the standard is not followed we will use Why-Why analysis and fine the root cause to eliminate it.
