Length width and height are the basic dimensions of an object. Length and width are measured along the horizontal and height is measured along vertical. Out of length and width, length will be higher than width.

Note: Basically if we know how length is measured, we can measure width and height of any object. Because, all three are measured in same way.

Before we start, let’s learn some more basics.

Length is denoted by following two factors;

1. A numerical value
2. A unit

For example on how length is measured

Suppose I measured a length of an object, and the result was 8 cm. In this example ‘8’ is numerical value and ‘cm’ is unit.

So, for measuring length we need a unit.

What is unit

Unit can be any object which has a length. For example a unit can be a bottle, a stick, a pencil, human arm, human foot etc.

Measuring length

So, to measure a length of an object, what we do is, compare the length of unit with the objects length. In some cases length of object will be higher, in this case we need to place the unit multiple times along the length of object. In this case numerical value will be greater than one.

If length of object is less than unit, numerical value will be less than one.

Suppose we measured a length of object and got as 6 bottles. And If we say the length to somebody, he needs to ask one question to us ‘what is the length of bottle?!!!’ Also different bottles have different length.
