Hi Melvin,

I believe what you have considered as cycle time in this article is more rightly called the total work content or total time required to complete the job.

Cycle time is similar to Takt time. Cycle time may vary for each station and is the time required to complete a job on that station. If the system is perfectly line balanced, cycle time would be the same on each station;
where as Takt time is the rate at which the product has to be manufactured to meet customer demand.

Thanks!
Ashok.

Hi Melvin,

I do think that you are using the right terminology and wording for the cycle time. Could please share the Operations Management source for your cycle time definition?

Best,
Taher
