What do we do in 5S Shine phase?

In shine phase we clean and inspect our work place. Through cleaning we will remove dirt, dust, oil, etc from machinery, equipment, tools, work benches. Along with this cleaning we will inspect machinery, tools, equipment and all items in the workplace for any defects or abnormalities. If we have found any defect or abnormalities its reported and makes sure its corrected.

Benefits of implementing 5S Shine phase?

Work place will become clean and also breakdowns will be less, because we can detect the abnormalities which lead to breakdown, earlier. So less breakdown time and more productive machinery.

How to implement 5S Shine phase

1. Give initial training to employees on 5S shine phase on what is 5S shine phase and why should we do that.
2. Prepare a cleaning and inspection checklist.(this will vary according to the work station)
3. Prepare a schedule for cleaning and inspection. In that schedule specify who is responsible for cleaning a particular workstation. Specifying responsibility is very important.
4. Audit the cleaning and inspection of the employees regularly.
5. Make a culture to clean and inspect the work station along with the work, not only at the cleaning time.
