TEEP (Total Effective Equipment Performance)

Total Effective Equipment Performance – TEEP, is a measure of how well a machine is used to produce good products, for the whole available time. Its calculated by multiplying OEE with the utilization factor.

Utilization factor = Planned production time / Available time.

This calculation can be understood by the following example. TEEP can be calculated by the any of the time period, days/week/month or year. In this example we will calculate the TEEP of machine for a week.

TEEP Sample calculation

The OEE of a machine for a week is 73%. And the machine is scheduled for production for 8 hours per day, for 5 days in that week.

So planned production time = 8 x 5, which is 40 hours.

Available time for that machine for that week is 24 x 7, which is 168 hours.

Utilization factor = 40/168

= 23.80%

Hence, TEEP = OEE x Utilization factor

= 23.80% x 73%

=.2380 x .73

=.1737

=17.37%

We have finished with the calculation.

TEEP vs OEE

Total Effective Equipment Performance conveys the message that how well the available time of a machine is used to produce good parts. in this example only 17.37% of the available time is used for producing good products. Rest of the time is either not scheduled or it come under the 6 big losses. By calculating the TEEP we can know how much we should improve. The main difference between the total effective equipment performance and overall equipment effectiveness is, TEEP shows how well available time of the machine is used for producing good parts and OEE shows how well the planned production time is used for producing good parts.
