Unit Per People Hour (UPPH)

Share this knowledge and support manufacturing industry

Unit per people hour is a measure of manhour used for manufacturing a product. It is abbreviated as UPPH. In this article lets discuss some formulas related to this and the uses of UPPH.

At the end of this article you will be able access an online tool related UPPH, where you can enter the required data and generate reports including graphs. Please note this online tools will be only accessible to our premium subscribers.

Ok… lets dive deep in to the UPPH and learn about it.

How UPPH is calculated, with Example

Suppose, 4 people should work for 1 shift of working hours 7, for producing 50 units.

Here, UPPH is calculated by following method

Multiply no of people working with working hours per shift, Say 4 x 7 = 28.

No a total 28 manhours is required to produce 50 units.

No you need to understand the concept People Hour (PH). One people hour is equal to one man hour.

Now, UPPH is the no of units produced in one People Hour.

Which is obtained by dividing 50 by 28, which is 1.76 units.

Which means 1.76 units can be produced with one people hour.

Now, what we do with this?

We will discuss this in below session.

Uses of UPPH

In the earlier session we discussed on how to calculate UPPH. Now what we do with this.

UPPH can be used as targets or standards

In our previous example, we said 4 people should work for 1 shift of working hours 7, for producing 50 units. That’s a standard. That means production people should target this in their in their production floor.

The base of this calculation is, we will calculate the standard time for producing a product through direct stopwatch time study.

Then with this standard time we will calculate manpower required.

Hence we get the target.

Monitor the productivity of the manpower.

For example, in the first shift the UPPH is 45, in second shift 35, third shift 20,… so on. In this way you can monitor the UPPH.

After analyzing the data we can find out which shift performed well and why. Then do why why analysis and take action.

We know this is a challenging task for monitoring. Hence we have created an online tool for this. You only need to enter data and the tool will generate graph which will help you to analyze data faster. You will also able to download the report and keep for your reference.

You can access this online tool from below session.

Online UPPH Tool

This online UPPH tool will help you to generate report and monitor the UPPH of your production line. You may also refer the graph generated, which visually conveys the status of your manpower productivity of the line. You will be also able print/download the report.

The UPPH tool will be accessible from below, but it will be accessible to our premium members.
