What is Effectiveness

Let’s discuss what is effectiveness through a simple example.

There was an operator and he has given a task of producing 50 products in two hours. And he achieved the target in the given time. In this case we can say that the operator was effective.

Two important words related to Effectiveness

Task and time are the two important words related to effectiveness. In our example, task is producing 50 products and time period is two hours.

For being effective, task need to be completed in specified time.

Now we are ready to discuss the definition…

Definition of Effectiveness

Effectiveness is the completion of a task in specified time period.

How to measure Effectiveness

‘Effective’ and ‘Not effective’ are two measures for measuring effectiveness. If a task is completed in specified time period, we can say ‘effective’ and if not, ‘Not effective;.

But, a measure for measuring how closer or far from the effective state will be beneficial for analysing and improvement.

So, suppose in our example if the operator completes the task in 3 hours, we can say that he was 2/3 = 0.6666 or 66% effective. Only calculate the time whenever the task is finished.

Efficiency and Effectiveness

There is no meaning in measuring any one of the above alone. A process need to be effective and efficient.
