“The parts passed every inspection. Why is Production rejecting them?”

The Purchase Manager was frustrated.

The supplier had delivered 2,000 precision-machined components.

Every dimension was within specification.

The inspection report was clean.

Yet the Production Manager refused to release the parts to the assembly line.

The Purchase Manager called the supplier.

“You’ve met every requirement in the drawing. What’s the problem?”

The supplier replied confidently, “Then why are you rejecting them?”

The Production Manager brought a component to the meeting.

“The part is correct. But the new assembly fixture cannot hold it properly.”

The factory had recently changed its assembly process.

The component drawing had not changed, so nobody had informed the supplier that the new process needed a different locating feature.

The parts were technically correct.

But they no longer worked smoothly in the actual production process.

The team reviewed the design together, tested a small change and agreed on an updated specification before the next batch.

The problem disappeared.

This is the importance of cross-functional collaboration and supplier development.

A drawing defines requirements, but successful manufacturing also depends on how components fit into the real process. Changes in design or production should be communicated to the people affected.

A part can pass inspection and still fail the process.

Quality isn’t just about making the part right. It’s about making sure the right part works where it’s needed.
