“We don’t have it.”
The Plant Head thought he had heard wrong.
“What do you mean?”
“One component is out of stock.”
The entire production line was ready.
Operators were waiting.
Machines were ready.
Orders had to be shipped.
The missing component?
It cost less than ₹20.
“Check the warehouse.”
Nothing.
“Check incoming material.”
Nothing.
“Call the supplier.”
The delivery would arrive only in the afternoon.
A tiny ₹20 component was now stopping products worth lakhs from being produced.
The Purchase Manager pointed to the inventory report.
Inventory had actually reduced.
On paper, that looked like an improvement.
But while reducing inventory, nobody had asked:
What happens if this particular part reaches zero?
That question changes everything.
Not every component should be managed only by its purchase price.
Some inexpensive parts can stop an entire production line when they are unavailable.
Good inventory management is not about having the lowest possible stock.
It is about having the right stock when production needs it.
Never judge the importance of a component only by its price.
A ₹20 part can hold a ₹20 lakh production line hostage.
Now or Never
