If you think why I am writing this post regarding Microsoft Excel, because its not related to industrial engineering, you are wrong, because this is one of the major tool I have been using in my industrial engineering profession. I am using Microsoft excel for Time and motion study, Capacity analysis, Data analysis, data visualization, automating data processing steps through macros, etc. So in this website I will be also sharing my knowledge regarding Microsoft excel.

During my profession, there where some situations when I realized that having password for Microsoft excel sheet will be better. So I think you industrial engineers will also need this knowledge. Its very simple not that complicated. Follow the steps below for providing password to Microsoft excel file. I am explaining this procedure with Microsoft excel for office 365. Don’t worry if you are not using version, because this procedure almost same for every version.

Procedure

  1. Open the Microsoft excel that you want to give a password for opening it.
  2. Click file tap (It will be at the top left corner)
  3. Click save as
  4. If you want rename the file or change the format of the file, other wise leave it
  5. Click more options
  6. Click on the tools (it will be to the left of save button)
  7. Click the general option from the menu
  8. Enter password to open
  9. Click OK
  10. Re-enter the password
  11. Click save button
  12. Replace the old file with new file with password by clicking yes button

Now you have given password to your excel file and whenever you open this excel file a window will be displayed for entering the password for opening. Beware that when you lost the password you cannot recover that file and also I don’t know how to recover it. So I recommend you to write down the password in a safe place.

Thank you for reading. I will publish more post regarding Microsoft Excel.
