What is throughput yield?

We will be discussing throughput yield in this article. If you have not read article on manufacturing yield, read that article and come back. Then only you can understand throughput yield.

In our example in article on manufacturing yield, first pass yield was 60%.

That means probability of getting good products from that process without rework is 60%.

Now in that example, if we reworked those 40 defective products and got 15 more good products, the manufacturing yield will be 75%.

This 75% is the throughput yield.

Throughput yield

Throughput yield is the percentage of good products produced, with considering rework of products which passed through process earlier.

After working there is a chance to get more good products.

Throughput yield will be equal to or higher than first pass yield.

Ever wondered how to calculate throughput yield of whole process of a product. Here comes the term Rolled throughput yield (RTY)
